Overview

City of Hamilton By-law No. 23-234, the Sewer and Drain By-law, which repealed and replaced By-law No. 06-026, in an office consolidation updated December 16, 2025 with amending By-law 25-207. It regulates the installation, connection and use of sewers and drains: connection where land is not directly serviced, the private and public portions of sewer laterals, permits, bonds and notice, pipe standards, parking area drainage, downspouts, foundation drains and sump pumps, lateral repair and replacement, and building removal. Schedules illustrate property drainage terms and a joined sanitary-foundation drain lateral.
