Overview

The City of Richmond Hill Policy Planning Division's terms of reference for an archaeological assessment, last updated December 2025. It explains what archaeological resources are, who prepares an assessment (an archaeologist licensed under the Ontario Heritage Act) and why, and that assessments run in stages 1 to 4 under the Province's 2011 Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists. It describes the steps it sets for finds or human remains during construction, then submission instructions and resources, including the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation's archaeology standards.

What it covers

  • Who Should Prepare an Archaeological Assessment?
  • Why Do We Need an Archaeological Assessment?
  • What Are the Submission Instructions?
  • Are There Other Resources?
