Overview

Markham's By-law 2018-57, A By-law to register Second Suites, passed May 29, 2018 and consolidated to November 2022 with amending By-law 2022-113, which rewrote the definition of a detached house. It is linked from Markham's page on registering basement apartments and second suites. It defines principal and secondary dwelling units in detached, semi-detached and row houses, and sets out registration and renewal with the Chief Fire Official as Registrar, inspection against the Ontario Building Code, Fire Code, zoning and property standards, refusal and revocation, fees, fines and administrative penalties.
