Overview

The City of Markham's Archaeological Impact Assessment Terms of Reference, June 2023, developed jointly by York Region and its municipalities and linked from the Guidelines and Terms of Reference page as the Archeological Impact Assessment Terms of Reference. Under the Ontario Planning Act and Ontario Heritage Act, it explains what a staged archaeological assessment identifies, that a licensed archaeologist prepares it, the provincial ministry's role and Indigenous engagement protocol, the study's contents and drawings, and notes on what happens if resources or human remains are found during construction.
