Line (Division) Fence By-law 0075-2004

Overview

The City of Mississauga's four-page procedure for a division fence between adjoining owners under Line (Division) Fence By-law 0075-2004, published on the city's fences page. It walks through the notice of intent sent by registered mail with three written quotes, the fourteen day period, and the apportionment of basic cost against actual cost, defined here as a four foot high, 1-1/2 mesh, steel chain link fence. Later steps cover the second notice, the evidence compiled for a prosecution, and the court process at the Provincial Offences Court.

What it covers

  • Attempt to reach an agreement: (Section 6)
  • Step 1: No agreement - proceed as per by-law: (Section 7)
  • Step 2: Recovering the costs of building the fence: (Section 15)
  • Step 3: Initiating a prosecution to recover proportionate share of cost of fence
