Overview

The City of Toronto's SketchUp guide for producing the map image used on a development application notice sign, the option taken where a 3D massing view would not represent the intent of a proposal such as a policy amendment. It covers joining model tiles, turning on the parcels tag to find the subject site, drawing and cleaning a closed polygon over the property, colouring it orange, raising it off the ground, unhiding layers, establishing a viewing point, exporting a JPEG and painting out the tile seam in Photoshop.

What it covers

  • Open the model that contains the location of your site in SketchUp
  • Select parcels for the subject site
  • Creating a closed polygon of the subject property
  • Clean up the closed polygon
  • Highlight your application model
  • Raise the subject property slightly off of the ground
  • Unhide the hidden layers
  • All layers visible again
  • Zoom out and up
  • Establish a suitable viewing point
  • Export your view as a jpeg file for final editing in photoshop
  • Save settings for jpeg file
  • Finishing touches in photoshop
  • Import final rendering into sign master template and label
Check this against the municipality before you rely on it.
