Overview

Hamilton's Development Application Guidelines for a Chloride Impact Study, last updated February 13, 2026, for development in a Wellhead Protection Area, a Highly Vulnerable Aquifer or an area with a chloride or sodium issue. The study assesses whether road salt from winter de-icing of a development's roads and parking lots would affect groundwater under the MECP's Reasonable Use Concept. It sets out the Hydrogeological Assessment, assumed chloride rates, the Reasonable Use Concept calculation, and Reporting and Recommendations. Source Water Protection and the Grand River Conservation Authority review it.
