Overview

Hamilton's Development Application Guidelines for a Species Habitat Assessment, last updated February 13, 2026, a study of Species at Risk, rare species and Significant Wildlife Habitat on or near a development site, often part of an Environmental Impact Statement. It covers scoping, background review with preliminary Species at Risk screening and a significant wildlife habitat review, and field surveys for plants, breeding, migratory and overwintering birds, reptiles, salamanders, bats, other mammals, insects, terrestrial crayfish and aquatic species. Analysis, documentation and a five-step procedure follow, with Natural Heritage staff as reviewers.
