City of Hamilton By-law No. 03-173, to prohibit and regulate the accumulation of standing water at specified times of the year, referred to in its own text as the standing water by-law. It defines standing water as more than 2.5 centimetres deep with no discernible movement, covers the period between April 1 and October 31, and exempts roofs, impermeable surfaces and treated or continuously agitated water. Its recitals tie mosquito breeding and West Nile virus to the medical officer of health's opinion, and it sets out the order and cost-recovery powers.

Check this against the municipality before you rely on it. DocHub collects what a municipality published; it cannot tell you what is in force today. A newer version may exist, may be titled differently, or may not be posted publicly at all.
