The Low Density Residential – Small Lot (R1a) zone of the City of Hamilton's zoning by-law, section 15.2. Its explanatory note describes areas where lots are typically smaller than those in the R1 zone, and the permitted uses match R1's list. What separates the two sections is the numbers: a 270 square metre minimum lot area and nine metre lot width for a single detached dwelling, 225 square metres and 7.5 metres for each semi-detached unit, and 300 square metres with a 10 metre width for a fourplex dwelling.
