Overview

Markham's Builder Tip Issue No. 24, dated January 1, 2025 and updated to the 2024 Ontario Building Code, on the energy-efficiency rule for pipes at a hot water storage tank; one of the City's housing tips. It quotes Article 12.3.1.4.: heat traps on inlet and outlet unless the tank has one or serves a recirculating system, and RSI 0.62 insulation on the first 2.5 m of outlet piping and the inlet pipe. The Objective quotes the Division A definition of residential occupancy and notes most tanks carry integral heat traps.
