Overview

The City of Markham's Builder Tip No. 88, dated January 1, 2025, on guards that children cannot climb, one of the City's housing tips under the 2024 Ontario Building Code; the City's New Home Report points to it for guard configuration. It quotes Article 9.8.8.6. and Sentence 3.3.1.18.(4) on members, attachments and openings between 140 mm and 900 mm. Its objective covers 100 mm baluster spacing, ladder effects, diagrams based on a National Research Council Canada opinion on horizontal members over 450 mm, and decorative elements covered with safety glass.

What it covers

  • 9.8.8.6. Guards Designed Not to Facilitate Climbing
