Overview

Builder Tip Issue No. 1 from the City of Markham Building Standards Department, dated January 1, 2025 and updated to the 2024 Ontario Building Code, the first of the City's tips for housing permits under that Code. It quotes Article 9.20.9.5., Ties for Masonry Veneer, on the straps tying veneer 70 mm or thicker to masonry backing or wood framing: corrosion resistance, thickness, width, pre-bending, screw or spiral-nail fastening and spacing. Its Objective explains how ties carry wind loads and why corroded strip ties fail.
