Overview
Builder Tip Issue No. 20 from the City of Markham Building Standards Department, issued December 1996, revised March 2015 and updated to the 2012 Building Code; the City links this one-page tip from both its 2024 and 2012 Ontario Building Code housing lists. It quotes Section 9.17 on columns (application, location, lateral support, size and thickness, paint) and Article 9.23.2.1. on strength and rigidity. The Objective covers fastening columns to beams, the 25 mm limit on beam-to-column offset, web stiffeners and multi-storey columns, with an illustrated detail.
