Overview

Markham's Builder Tip Issue No. 44, dated January 1, 2025 and updated to the 2024 Ontario Building Code, on keeping plumbing pipes from freezing, filed with the City's housing tips. It quotes Sentence 7.3.5.3.(1) on protection against freezing, and Articles 9.25.2.1., 9.25.3.1. and 9.25.4.3. on insulation, air barriers and vapour barriers. The Objective lists locations where water, soil or waste pipes are kept out of, among them uninsulated exterior walls and above unheated garages, calls insulation alone over a garage unreliable, and illustrates piping near a roof space.

What it covers

  • 7.3.5.3. Protection against Freezing
  • 9.25.2.1. Required Insulation
  • 9.25.3.1. Required Barrier to Air Leakage
